Want to make a difference to women and youth in need by leading our campaign in your community? Here's what's required to become a Community Lead.
1. Arrange for public drop-off locations for purse and backpack donations.
Establish one to three locations in your community. Ask local businesses, such as florist and clothing shops, and yoga and fitness studios. Drop-offs at your home and private residences are not permitted..
- Think of places you frequent and where you know business owners in the community and ask them to place a drop-off collection box in a highly visible spot in their location.
- Provide the Donation Guidelines flyer for display, and advise the owner/staff to ensure the campaign is promoted to customers and guidelines for acceptable donations are followed.
- Arrange for regular collections of the donations and maintain contact to gauge if the location is being used. Collected purses must be stored in another location from September 1 through to December 1.
- Provide your contact information so you can answer questions from customers and donors if needed.
2. Provide the drop-off location(s) with a collection box.
- Provide a decorated large cardboard box, plastic (Rubbermaid type) bin or basket that is clearly labelled Fill a Purse for a Sister Campaign.
- Line the collection box with a clear plastic bag for purses to be gathered easily.
3. Spread the word and host a purse party with your network.
- Talk to your friends, family, co-workers and network about the campaign — share your passion for the cause and ask them to fill one, two or more purses according to their ability.
- Organize or encourage your network of connections to host a purse theme party to collect donations. A virtual party using a social platform like Zoom works, too.
4. Regularly use social media, including community Facebook groups, and distribute official flyers provided by the campaign for promotion.
- On Instagram, please tag @fillapurseforasistercampaign. On Facebook, please tag https://www.facebook.com/Fill-A-Purse-For-A-Sister-Campaign-1376469622377185/
- On all posts, use the hashtag #fillapurseforasistercampaign and tag @angelfreedman

- Respond to inquiries from your community within a reasonable timeframe.

5. Contact women's shelters or social services agencies in your community to confirm they would welcome donations of purses and/or backpacks.
- First, please contact Angel for existing recipient locations. If you need assistance finding a women's shelter or social service please reach out to Angel.
- Be sure to take photos (with permission) when the drop-off occurs to share on social media and our website.
